Things I need to know about California Group/Business Insurance

What is group health insurance?

Companies with a minimum of two employees or owners can enroll in group health insurance. These plans enable the employer to offer the owners, officers and employees and his/her dependents access to health, dental, life and vision plans.

Are we eligible for Group Health Insurance?

Each carrier has their own requirements to be eligible. The basic requirements require the group to produce one of the following: -Payroll Records/DE6 -Schedule C or K-1 Tax Return -Statement of Information listing the corporation's officers -Business License showing owners

What are the advantages of group health insurance vs. individual?

First-there is no health underwriting. So, regardless of any pre-existing health conditions, group health insurance is guaranteed issued if the company meets the above underwriting conditions Second-employees can pay for their premium with "pre-tax" wages. This reduces the taxable wages for the employees as well as reduces the employers FICA tax

Can I offer several plan choices to the employees and how much will it cost the employers?

Depending on the size of your group at a minimum you will be able to offer (1) HMO and (1) PPO plan choice. The minimum contribution from the employer is $100 towards the direct employee's premium. He/she would pay the difference and could also enroll their dependents. The employer is not obligated to pay any of the dependents premiums.

Who are the carriers that offer group health insurance in California and do I pay a commission to your agency?

Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United HealthCare, PacifiCare, HealthNet and Kaiser are a few of the carriers represented in California. We have a wholesales relationship with all the carriers and you do not pay a commission or fees for our services. The carriers pay us if we write business with them.

How do I get started?

First, enter in the group's census information on the web site. This will allow you to see and filter different plan options based on budget, HMO/PPO, carrier and deductible.
